Sarah Mowitz

Sarah Mowitz clearly remembers the first time she recognized she was a lesbian. She was editing her Facebook profile wondering who she was actually ‘Interested in’.

Realizing that she was lesbian, Sarah sought out information about coming out and attended the Iowa Pride Network’s Queer Youth Summit. She became educated on LGBTQ issues and found a community who she related to.

She went on to found the Central Academy Gay-Straight Alliance and joined the Iowa Pride Network Youth Council and Board of Directors.

Sarah will attend the University of Illinois and plans to be a leader within her university’s GSA organization and join HIV/AIDS advocacy groups.
